June 22, 2023, Double room, Hotel Intourist-Zakarpattia
At the SNRA residence, curator Dana Brezhnieva continues her practice of finding and collaborating with young artists, so she immediately became interested in meeting the charming odessan Sofya Holubuieva. The artist had to leave her native home and moved to Berlin, where she studies, works and acts as a mouthpiece of Ukrainian culture, from where she raises funds to help Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
Sofia Holubuieva is a multidisciplinary Ukrainian female artist who is the author of paintings, graphics, performances, installations and videos. Among other topics, the artist works with the ideas of digitalization and the impact of technology on society. The history of painting and its modern functions are also a subject of her interest.
Closely connected with her family, Sofia often includes her loved ones in the process of creating projects. She focuses on the themes of her hometown and home, exploring issues of protection, limitations. She is interested in the ideas of the common and the individual, since she is a twin.
Sofia is a co-participant of the self-organized space in Berlin “UCC”, which, at first a full-scale invasion, existed as an artistic residence, gallery and meeting place for Ukrainians. During this time, the team organized many exhibitions, concerts, master classes, lectures, auctions and festivals.
Now, “UCC” is a bridge between Ukrainian artists and European institutions.
