Mariia Luiza Filatova was born in Zaporizhzhia. Graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv. Works mainly with oil painting. After the start of a full-scale invasion, the main subject of the artist’s works becomes the landscape of her native city, brought to the status of a sign. In 2022 and 2023, the artist spends a long time in Japan on an art residency, this experience establishes in her works the inherent meditativeness and tendency to simplify the form.

The SNRA residence draws attention to the role of culture and art during the russian-Ukrainian war, aims to implement institutionally critical projects related to cultural heritage (tangible and intangible), development of artistic-cultural institutions. The SNRA residency program, the participation of Mariia Luiza Filatova, her exhibition were implemented thanks to grant support from The Académie des beaux-arts in Paris (French Academy of Fine Arts)
