Andriy Stegura – Schedule of movements. A talk about samizdat in Uzhhorod 1989-2025.

Andriy Stegura was born in Zaporizhzhia in 1969. In 1984-88 he studied at the Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts. Since 1996, he has been a member of the art group Poptrans. Co-founder of the YA1 PRODUCT publishing house, which has been creating and popularizing self-publishing as a work of visual art practices since 1989.

The first issue of YA1 PRODUCT in 1989 was published in 10 handmade copies (ink, pen). The next editions of Ya1 PRODUCT were published in 1996 (2nd issue), 1998 (3rd issues). At the same time, Andriy Stegura, co-authored by Vadym Harabaruk, Marcel Onysko, and Robert Saller, published many other samizdat publications with a total circulation of 26 products to date. In particular, in 1997 “Forest Song”, in 1999 “36 Parts of the Body” and “Siyaya”, in 2000 “The Gift” (100 copies). From 1998 to 2001, there was a joint workshop on Shumna Street where they kept “Onboard Diaries” based on the principle of a ship’s logbook. “They were these stitched white sheets with an original cover with a title. Anyone could write what they wanted and whenever they wanted, including the guests of the workshop. As soon as one diary ended, the next one started. No pauses))”.

In 2016, he launched the long-term project SYNII. At the moment, the SYNII project has realized 7 art books with original works by about 50 artists from many countries.

Andriy Stegura lives and works in Uzhhorod.
