Volodymyr Kuznetsov
Silence of the Muses, or what I did in 2022-2024
April 3, 2025. The lecture hall of the Transcarpathian Academy of Arts, Uzhhorod
At the meeting Volodymyr Kuznetsov spoke about his works of 2022-2025 and the initiatives I participated in. In particular:
“Open Workshop” in the Lutsk Art Gallery – a social practice of free art classes for everyone, including children and IDPs. Methods of documenting volunteer movements are my personal experience. An archive of gestures of solidarity and public social acts. Ways to talk about “our war” in Ukraine and in the world. An inner duty to include oneself in the “social”. How can an artist be useful in times of war? The meeting included discussions about art, documenting war, fears, inspiration, communities, and our present.
Volodymyr Kuznetsov was born in Lutsk, lives and works in Kyiv and Rzhyshchiv. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions and residency programs in Ukraine and abroad. In his work he explores the aesthetics of everyday practices and the presence of the archaic in the present. Volodymyr considers memory as a type of experience and generates new concepts through personal and collective knowledge. He is a co-founder of the R.E.P. group, a participant in self-organized initiatives and assemblies of the Maidan and post-Maidan.
The SNRA residence draws attention to the role of culture and art during the russian-Ukrainian war, aims to implement institutionally critical projects related to cultural heritage (tangible and intangible), development of artistic-cultural institutions.
The SNRA residency program and the Volodymyr Kuznetsov’s participation were implemented thanks to the grant support from The Académie des beaux-arts in Paris (French Academy of Fine Arts)
