“The legacy of modernism is the most controversial in Ukraine, in particular because it fell entirely to the times of the Ukrainian SSR. Even before the full-scale invasion, it was quite a challenge to work with, but now both the stigmatization of the heritage and its defenders and the pace of destruction have reached a peak. The illegitimate president of russia, v. putin, brazenly declared that the entire legacy of the Soviet era belongs to russia, and many Ukrainians willingly agree with him. But isn’t it in vain? At the lecture, we will talk about the value of the heritage of Ukrainian modernism, the difficulties with its perception, and who benefits from its destruction. And will we be able to save something from the hammers of Ukrainian officials and “activists” in the fight against “Sovietism” and the anvil from russian missiles”

Continuing to host Ukrainian artists after the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine, the SNRA Residence draws attention to the role of culture and art during the russian-Ukrainian war. Performing the function of the residence, which takes place in the brutalist, architectural hotel complex of the Intourist-Zakarpattia hotel, raises the issue of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Preserving the value of critical memory of history. Search for a cultural and humanistic museum of the history of traumatic historical and cultural objects.
