In my practice, I am engaged in painting, graphics and experimenting with film photography.
I am interested in the phenomena of violence and death and the calm, meditative images contrasting with them.
In painting, I am interested in physicality in images and ways of depicting it. Also the connection between painting and photography, which is usually the reference for my works and what gives the impulse.
I am fascinated by such images that are not immediately readable, have a certain depth, or those that do not seem to be what they are at first glance and take time to perceive.
In photography, I still do not have clear conceptual sequences and move more intuitively. At the moment, I am working with a portrait, searching for expressiveness of the image.

Luca Basov’s participation is within the framework of the international Emergency Residencies project funded by the “Creative Europe” program, together with the Assortment Room (Ivano-Frankivsk), Meet Factory (Prague), KAIR Residency (Kosice) and Hablarenarte (Madrid), Sorry No Rooms Available Residence (Uzhhorod). and Khashchi (Kyiv), we invited 12 professionals to a residency that will allow them to develop their artistic activities. The initiative aims to support artistic practices that are the result of research that do not receive enough institutional/commercial support. The project was created to support artistic communities from all over the country, as well as those Ukrainian artists (or artists previously based in Ukraine) who had to leave the country due to the Russian invasion.
